Covenant Gathering 2009
A strong storm plunged us into darkness just as we started
worship. The Covenant Gathering 2008 faithful just kept
singing though, and continued our worship in the
almost-candlelight of flashlights, cell phones and laptop
computers until the power returned. Then we thought about
light and how we discover the light of the world in creation,
ourselves and each other.
We also find light within and among each
other. The light of inspiration. The warm
flame of friendships. The sharp bright light
of a new idea. The light of revelation through
worship and prayer. The happy glow
reflected in the faces of children at play.
And the burning certainty of the Spirit's call
to service.
Covenant Gathering at Michindoh is filled
with light. Light bounces off the afternoon
lake. Light shines through atrium
windows as we gather for lunch. The
sun's rays dapple the forest paths.
Dawn's light and evening's colors
bookend our days together. We sing and
rejoice in the light of a campfire.
Yet all this light without and within comes
from a single source: God as manifest in
Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. We invite
you, your friends and family to be part of a
light-filled, light-sharing week this summer.
