Covenant Gathering is an Intergenerational Presbyterian conference.
-To equip participants for ministry in their families, churches and communities;
-For spiritual renewal of those who lead others;
-To create a greater appreciation for a connectional church;
-To model the Kingdom of God in our life together.
The Roots of Covenant Gathering
Covenant Gathering traces its roots to the "Synod Schools" once widely held through
the Presbyterian Church (USA) and its predecessor denominations. These summer
intergenerational gatherings were held on the campuses of Presbyterian-related
colleges. What began as training events for Sunday School teachers expanded to support all facets of a local church's life: leadership development, peace and justice, church renewal, interfaith issues, women's issues, youth ministry, ethics,
young adult ministry, spirituality, the arts, the Bible, worship, technology, family ministry, mission, religion and culture, theology, stewardship. When the Synod of
the Covenant was no longer able to offer its Synod School after 2006, a group of participants felt called to continue some form of what had already come to be known as Covenant Gathering, and began networking with various congregations and presbyteries. In 2007, participants from the Synod of Lincoln Trails also joined the Gathering. Miami Presbytery granted Covenant Gathering "network" status,
and we continue to seek ways to partner with other Presbyterian entities as well.
